And seeing teams from Kenya,\nMexico, Ethiopia, Japan,\nKorea, and other countries\nalso was motivating, as was spending time top athletes in Colorado’s history such as Uta Pippig,\nEllen Hart, and Frank Shorter.\u003c/span\&gt;\u003c/font\&gt;\u003c/p\&gt;\n\n\u003cp\&gt;\u003cfont size\u003d\"2\" face\u003d\"Arial\"\&gt;\u003cspan style\u003d\"font-size:10.0pt;font-family:Arial\"\&gt; \u003c/span\&gt;\u003c/font\&gt;\u003c/p\&gt;\n\n\u003cp\&gt;\u003cfont size\u003d\"2\" face\u003d\"Arial\"\&gt;\u003cspan style\u003d\"font-size:10.0pt;font-family:Arial\"\&gt;My problem was I was 20 pounds over my “running\nweight” of 180 and I had not been training except perhaps for\ncarbo-loading.  So I had two challenges.  First, how does one lose 20\npounds in 28 hours? They were aghast I hadn’t registered for the Race and shamed me into going to the Pearl Street Mall to register, where top Race organizer and former Boulder Chamber V.P. If I ran between now and the Race’s start time, I would be too tired to even finish the Race.  So, I decided my “training program” would be to not run at all.
